Defiance Australian
Shepherds
Welcome to the Internet home of Indigo Hills Farms & Defiance Australian Shepherds.  We are set atop a hill on 10 acres in Central
Wisconsin.

Defiance Australian Shepherds was born in 1996 with the purchase of my first Australian Shepherd "Northland's Johnny Walker Red"
(aka "Walker").  I was drawn to the unique beauty, intelligence, and overall character of the breed.  After admittedly nowhere near
enough research I knew this was the breed for me.

From there the dream of Indigo Hills began.  In 2006 I found my human mate (and husband) and Indigo Hills became a reality.

The philosophy of Indigo Hills relates to the concept of Permaculture, where we hope to keep our farming in balance with nature.
Indigo Hills boasts a small and growing flock of registered Katahdin Hair Sheep that are commercially raised on pesticide and
chemical free pasture/hay.  The goal is to produce an excellent quality meat product for our customers wishing to move away from
Commercial Feedlot Operations and toward a more natural product that is raised with respect on a small local family farm...

Indigo Hills is experiencing many exciting changes as my permaculture class has inspired me to utilize all or our resources to their
fullest.  2009 shall be the year of the vegetable garden, cut flower garden, fruit trees "orchid", and more pasture areas for our sheep (&
2 rescue horses) as well as a working model of Agra-forestry well underway.
We are also looking forward to making use of our incredible wind and sun resources by erecting a wind turbine and Photo voltaic
panels to generate electricity and hot water.  (For more information on renewable energy visit the
MREA.)
